Moving Forward is not only a decision but also a matter of integrity!

The ambiance at work isn’t a delightful one. This year sort of evoked an undertone of moving forward, literally. About this “forward movement”, there have been pointers, that steadily got revealed through the course of the last quarter of the past year. And they got out in the open late last year, right before the break for Christmas. So this is not me giving the impression that I’m PULLING MY HAIR OUT BECAUSE IT’S ALL HAPPENING SUDDENLY OMG. It’s not really.

The MD called for a general meeting sometime in November. We hadn’t had one of those since I took up this job so I reckoned shit was going down. In the meeting he shared some news about the company being merged in the future with a certain other company, one of the biggest auditing firms known (so we know it’s more like an acquisition. talmabout merger). It wouldn’t happen tomorrow, but as the mails and travel meetings are becoming less classified, it would happen consequently, he said. Fingers crossed on the timing but he is looking at late this year. Ergo, we’re all pretending nothing is going to happen. But moving forward.

Before that meeting, one of my bosses stated his intention to leave the company and it got contested. In a conventional work organisational chart, this boss should be next to the ED (that’s Executive Director. While ED is next to MD). So you can see how it’s not so easy to permit his request, and in all fairness, his emoluments got to be negotiated- his salary was tripled and perks increased. I think he rejected them, otherwise he wouldn’t still be having lengthy closed door, whispery one-on-one further meetings with the MD and accountant. In my head, the MD needed the presence of the accountant so that he doesn’t go overboard with the renumeration . It didn’t matter anyways, boss tendered his resignation letter on Friday. Today (Tuesday) should be his last day. Pity. Moving forward.

We also got news yesterday that confirmed the speculations that’s been in the air. The ED equivalent here has also called it quits. We don’t know for sure, there had been hints he would bow out, but noone would have imagined it would be this early in the year he’d sing adious. He didn’t show up for work yesterday but his text to the MD read “Will be out for a week”. Ordinarily that wouldn’t have been connoted for anything otherwise, but the company driver came to give hot gist yesterday. He said he overheard boss describe his travel (to South Africa, his home country) as “relocate“, and something about selling his furniture. There were more gists that if you did not know the man before, after the driver’s tale you’d conclude he was a deceptive, dishonorable, disloyal, double-dealing shrewd. I wouldn’t say he’s any of those, he absolutely isn’t. But why he gon act this way? We’ll be cross legged chilling for him come a week’s time. Moving forward things.

Now to make company matters worse, the last boss also next to the ED presented his resignation letter just today too. Also moving forward.

There’s a sort of sickness in the air but I swear there’s nothing wrong with the company particularly. I want to think it’s a good air borne sickness that should affect me soon too because I pray I’m not here this time next year. Because that would only mean I haven’t moved forward. Externally, this paints a pretty bad picture. Everyone is leaving, something must be wrong. But this forward movements, for all cases mentioned, are all positive. The company, being the biggest in its industry in Nigeria, chooses to keep growing. These bosses, even though at the peak of their career earning in millions monthly, stay visionaries steady taking that leap.

How do I position myself to get bitten by that crazy juicy forward bug?:'(

Oh well, the bug has to meet you in a place of integrity( my unhelpful two cents here, but you don’t want to dwell too much on this suggestion. so moving forward…) ☺

    1. In a place of integrity. Sigh one of the bosses told me that it’s integrity that’ll make you stand by your decision, and not get affected by the price because it’s true that every man has a price.
